All too much of life is lived in autopilot. From the hand we brush our teeth with from the way we travel to work. Here are some top tips to start living more consciously and some well-needed self-care tips.
Whether you are a parent, partner, boss, employee, no matter what your role many people spend lots of our time thinking about others and we need to equally spend time thinking about our self. Selfcare should be a number one priority for your physical and mental health and well-being. Learn how to practice self care, take time and take care of yourself.
Wake up with feeling energised. Wake up according to your body clock, what feels good for you. Generally, we are designed to follow the circadian rhythm by waking up with light and sleeping with darkness, in corresponding with the environment. Start to become aware of the amount of sleep you actually need and the timing that feels good for your body when you sleep and wake; however tempting it may be to stay up for late nights. But, remember to tell yourself you will wake up feeling energised no matter what the sleep conditions, what you tell yourself before going to sleep can dictate how you feel upon waking. Especially for all people who are parents, remember your health is important to giving your best self to your family.
Spend some time alone. No matter how much of a social being you are (or not) grant yourself at least 10 minutes a day to something that is solely for you. Spending time alone could consist of silent meditation, breathwork, journal writing of gratitude, becoming aware of each of your five senses. Choose 2 things that stand out to you that you can see. 2 things your can hear, near and far. How does your body feel? What can you taste and smell? Just be still. Be silent. Be present. There are many ways to practice self-care, but until you learn to be alone with yourself will you start to hear what you need and what you feel like.
Think more about what you have got and not what you haven't and this is how you will feel fulfilled. Write down at least 3 things you are grateful for each day.
Listen and Observe. Make sure you listen to yourself, your body. What excites you? What makes you feel good? Who you feel awkward around? What makes you feel uneasy? Then do more of the things that make you feel good and learn how to say no to the things that don't.
Be your own best friend. Our thoughts are incredibly powerful. You wouldn't say some of the things you say to yourself to your best friend, so why treat yourself like that. Be aware of how you speak to yourself every day and make sure you create a habit to compliment yourself because you are worth it. Be your own cheerleader.
